Summer School of Croatian Folklore

DANCES OF THE ADRIATIC REGION
2nd to 11th of August 2018 - Borik, Zadar

Participants will learn about the folk costume, songs and instruments (tamboura and traditional instruments) of the Croatian Adriatic, more precisely the dances and music of the islands of Krk, Cres, Rab, Pag, Silba, the towns of Split, Trogir, Kaštel, Čiovo, the Makarska littoral, the islands of Šolta, Brač, Hvar, Korčula, Mljet and Lastovo, the Pelješac peninsula, the Dubrovnik littoral, Konavle, Župa Dubrovačka, Rijeka Dubrovačka, the Neretva valley, the contra-dance of Dubrovnik, and the dances of the coast and islands of the Šibenik area.
Also taught will be the folklore of the Croatians living in neighbouring countries in the Adriatic sphere – the dances and music of southern Herzegovina and the dances of the Croatians of Boka Kotorska.

The school is led by eminent ethnologist and ethnochoreographer Andrija Ivančan. Traditional instruments will be taught by Vjekoslav Martinić, with the School's tamburitza orchestra conducted by Tibor Bün, joined by guest lecturer maestro Siniša Leopold, head conductor of the Croatian Radio & Television Tamburitza Orchestra.
They will be joined by other leading expert lecturers and renowned researchers of Croatian folklore: Tonči Tadin, Vidoslav Bagur, Nenad Milin, Damir Kremenić, Goran Oreb, Zlatan Sindičić, Katarina Horvatović and Kristina Benko Markovica, with the assistance of musical rehearser Antun Kottek.




You can choose from one of the three groups offered:

1. DANCE
2. PLAYING THE TAMBURITZA (led by Tibor Bün, with guest lecturer maestro Siniša Leopold)
3. PLAYING TRADITIONAL CROATIAN INSTRUMENTS (led by Vjekoslav Martinić)


Lectures in all three groups will be held in the morning and afternoon.


  

The gala closing show featuring the participation of all those attending the school will be staged on the evening of Wednesday, 11th of August 2018, at Borik. 

 
Accommodation:
Zadar Youth Hostel in Borik, Zadar. The price of full board per day, per person is a very affordableHRK 188.00, plus an occupancy tax per day, per person of HRK 3.50 for those under 29 years of age and of HRK 7.00 for those above the age of 29.
Tuition fee:€ 80 or HRK 600 per person.
