XIV Croatian Ethno Treasury Folk Costume Workshop

We invite you to this year's twelfth consecutive Croatian Ethno Treasury Folk Costume Workshop – a workshop dedicated to the fabrication and reconstruction of Croatian folk costume and traditional artisanal textile skills.

This traditional Croatian Heritage Foundation summer programme is targeted to fans of Croatian artisanal textile, folk costumes in particular – their manufacture, maintenance and use in folklore associations. If you enjoy craftwork, wish to broaden your knowledge and learn something new – this is the right programme for you!


The workshop leader and programme author is Josip Forjan, director of the Folk Costume Loan & Workshop of Zagreb. Joining him in holding classes will be a group of skilled assistants and demonstrators, specialised in individual techniques.

The folk costume workshop offers two lecture groups: introductory and advanced. The work of both groups will be held in parallel at the premises of the Sculpting School. Only people who have already participated in previous workshops and acquired basic skills can participate in the advanced group.


Weaving on various looms, tailoring, sewing, all types of embroidery, appliqué and ornamentation, reconstruction and the fabrication and maintenance of folk costumes will be taught. Special content is also planned: the fabrication of Pag island style and Lepoglava style lace, motifs, tatting lace and gold embroidery.

The programme will close with a traditional exhibition at the premises of the Sculpting School of the work of all workshop participants.


Workshop period: 5 – 15 August 2016.

Dormitory of the Sculpting School in Pučišća on the island of Brač. The price of full board per person per day is HRK 230.00, plus residence tax of HRK 3.00 per day for persons under the age of 18 and HRK 6.00 per day for persons above the age of 18.

Tuition fee:EUR 80.00 or HRK 600.00 per person
