Croatian women's expedition on top of the world

Darko Berljak's Higher Than Everest follows the life of the expedition, from its inception, organization, preparations, the hike through the picturesque Nepalese landscape, through to the exciting moments on the mountain and the triumphant ascent to the summit. The book is packed with interesting details of the history of climbing the highest mountain in the world, the local Sherpas and of previous Croatian expeditions to Mount Everest. A special chapter of the book is dedicated to the women's expedition to Cho Oya in 2007, which was a precondition to the success of the Everest expedition.

Eduard Hercigonja's A Millennium Of Croatian Glagolitic Culture

The book offers an integral overview of the use of the Glagolitic script and of the literary and culture that accompanied it in Croatia from its beginnings, when Glagolitic was the dominant Croatian script, in which texts significant for the history of the Croatian language and literature were created, and the foundations of Croatian legal and scientific tradition were laid down. Its pithy style and clarity make it accessible to all those who wish to learn of the fundamental elements of their own national culture.
The book is broken up into three chapters accompanied by lavish illustrations and an exhaustive bibliography.

Our greatest pundits, creators of the Lado art programme, interpreters, artists, devotees and friends of Lado, people like Zorica Vitez, Ivan Ivančan, Stjepan Sremac, Hanibal Dundović, Lidija Bajuk, Nana Šoljev and others write of Lado in the past and Lado in the present day, about Lado in the context of traditional Croatian culture and global culture in general. In her book Give It To Me Short And Straight – Croatian For Normal People author Nives Opačić, known for her precise and jocular nurturing of the Croatian language, gives accessible advice to readers, in 1.046 entries, on how to formulate their thoughts better and with greater clarity and overcome the fear of their own standard language.

Juraj Batelja's trilogy on Stepinac

A capital work, Monsignor Juraj Batelja's trilogy The Blessed Aloysius Stepinac – Witness of the Gospel and Love was presented February 8th at the Vijenac Hall of the archdiocesan pastoral centre. The author of the trilogy is the postulator of the cause to proclaim the beatified Croatian priest a saint. The trilogy was published on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Cardinal's death, marked on February 10th. The first volume contains Stepinac's biography, the second covers documents on Stepinac's life and work from 1934, when he was appointed Zagreb Archbishop and Coadjutor, while the third book covers documents from 1944 to 1998. That was the year in which Pope John Paul II declared Stepinac beatified in early October during his second visit to Croatia.
