On the 5th of December the Croatian President and Armed Forces Commander in Chief Kolinda Grabar Kitarović hosted a reception at which she presented national awards and decorations conferred in 2016.
Among the recipients is the Federation of Croatians in Hungary, an ethnic Croatian association that has been active since November of 1990, first as an ethnic group and from the mid-1990s as a registered association. The Croatica (Hrvatski glasnik - Radio Croatica) media centre reports that the award was accepted on behalf of the Federation of Croatians in Hungary by the group's president Joso Ostrogonac.
The award is conferred on the basis of authorities granted by the Croatian constitution and its legislation on awards and decorations and based on the proposal of a national commission for awards and decorations by the Croatian president. The national charter was awarded for particular merit in activity in the spheres of culture and education and in promoting and preserving the distinct nature of the Croatian language and customs in Hungary and marks the twenty-fifth anniversary of the activity of the Federation of Croatians in Hungary.
