We invite you to attend this year's Summer School of Croatian Folklore at Borik in Zadar! The Zadar Youth Hostel operated by the Croatian Youth Hostel Association in the stunning setting of Zadar's Borik offers very affordable accommodation, board and a seaside learning venue!
This summer the school will feature instruction in the dance, folk costumes, songs and musical instruments of the Croatian ALPINE REGION and the folk DANCES OF NORTHWEST CROATIA (the folk dances of Istria County, the Grobnik area and Gorski Kotar, the Karlovac Kupa River region, the foothills and lowlands of Jaska, Samobor, Zaprešić, Vrapče and Zagreb, the foothills of Sesvete, Zelina and Vrbovec, the Zagorje, Međimurje and Podravina regions and the dances of the Gradišće Croats). Along with practical dance lectures there will also be lectures on the folk costumes and songs of the area and lectures on dance history and cultural and historical characteristics, dancer training methodology and dance zones.
The school aims to educate the leaders and members of Croatian folklore and tamburitza groups. The school was founded and its program developed by the late and respected Croatian ethnologist and ethnochoreologist Dr Ivan Ivančan (the school was established in 1963), and is currently led by Andrija Ivančan. He will be joined in giving lectures by Croatian folklore experts: Nerina Štajner, Miro Kirinčić, Senka Jurina, Štefan Novak (Austrija), dr. Goran Oreb, Katarina Horvatović, Kristina Benko Markovica, Tibor Bün, Vjekoslav Martinić and guest lecturer maestro Siniša Leopold. Antun Kottek is the music rehearser.
You can choose from one of the three groups offered:
2. PLAYING THE TAMBURITZA (led by Tibor Bün, with guest lecturer maestro Siniša Leopold)
3. PLAYING TRADITIONAL CROATIAN INSTRUMENTS (led by Vjekoslav Martinić)
Lectures in all three groups will be held in the morning and afternoon.
Accommodation: Zadar Youth Hostel in Borik, Zadar. The price of full board per day, per person is a very affordableHRK 188.00, plus an occupancy tax per day, per person of HRK 3.50 for those under 29 years of age and of HRK 7.00 for those above the age of 29.
Tuition fee:€ 80 or HRK 600 per person.
