We invite you to attend this year's Summer School of Croatian Folklore at Koprivnica
This winter we'll be learning about the dances, folk costumes, songs and musical instruments of Croatia's DINARIC REGION, i.e. the folk dances of Lika, the Velebit Channel area, Ravni kotari, Bukovica, the Zadar Littoral, the islands of Pag, Ugljan and Dugi otok, the Šibenik-Primošten Littoral, the Zagore region and its islands, the Drniš and Sinj regions, Poljice, the tramontane region of the Biokovo mountain range (Zabiokovlje), the Imotska region and the Neretva Valley, and the dances of the Croatians in Bosnia-Herzegovina belonging to this dance region: western and northern Herzegovina, Završje, Kupres, western Bosnia and the central Bosnian highlands.
Along with practical instruction in dance, lectures will also be given on the folk costumes and songs of the Dinaric region, as will lectures on dance notation (kinetography) and the basics of children's folklore. Also planned are theoretical lectures on the use of folklore in stage productions, the methodology of working with rural folklore groups and in particular with reproductive ensembles.
The school aims to educate the leaders and members of Croatian folklore and tamburitza groups. The school was founded and its program developed by the late and respected Croatian ethnologist and ethnochoreologist Dr Ivan Ivančan (the school was established in 1963), and is currently led by Andrija Ivančan (Artistic Director, National Folk Dance Ensemble of Croatia LADO). He will be joined in giving lectures by Croatian folklore experts: Vidoslav Bagur, Nenad Milin, Miroslav Šilić, Goran Knežević, Kristina Benko Markovica, Katarina Horvatović, Tibor Bün, maestro Siniša Leopold, Chief Conductor of the tamburitza orchestra HRT and Vjekoslav Martinić.
You can choose from one of the three groups offered:
2. PLAYING THE TAMBURITZA (led by Tibor Bün, with guest lecturer maestro Siniša Leopold)
3. PLAYING TRADITIONAL CROATIAN INSTRUMENTS (led by Vjekoslav Martinić)
Lectures in all three groups will be held in the morning and afternoon.
The gala closing show featuring the participation of all those attending the school will be staged on the evening of Thursday, January 12, 2017.

Tuition fee: € 80 or HRK 600 per person.
Applications: An application form must be filled out and sent to the Croatian Heritage Foundation by the December 1, 2016 at the latest.
